Meir Feinstein - A Family Memorial

Meir Feinstein Portrait The heroic tale of Meir Feinstein and Moshe Barazani became one of the most prominent tales in the history of Zionism and the establishment of the state of Israel. They were sentenced to death by hanging for their participation in different underground attacks against the British rule in Eretz Israel. Four hours before their scheduled execution they killed themselves with two smuggled grenades, abandoning a previous Samson-like plan to kill themselves with their British executioners.

Rabbi Yaakov Goldman joined them on the eve of their execution, April 21, 1947. He insisted that he would be present at their hanging so that they "will see the face of a loving Jewish brother" before they die. They were unable to convince him not to come, so they had to abort the Samson-like plan in order to save the Rabbi. Read the full story.

My name is Dubi Feinstein, zt"l** and Meir Feinstein was my uncle. A lot has been published about the heroic act of Meir Feinstein and Moshe Barazani. In this memorial site, I have collected various bits and a pieces of information about my uncle's life that may not be readily available to the non-Hebrew speaking public. More.

**It is with a saddened heart to inform the readers of this memorial site that Dubi Feinstein passed away in October 2019. Due to the fact that this memorial was so personal and important to him, the editor has chosen to keep the narrative in his first-person voice, as researched and told by Dubi, in order to acknowledge the deep passion he felt for this story, which is told with unparalleled conviction.

Savta Bella Feinstein

Savta Bella Feinstein

Meir's mother, Bella Feinstein, was my grandfather Eliezer Feinstein's second wife. A remarkably strong, intelligent and beautiful woman, she was the cornerstone for my family during the tragic struggle to save Meir's life after he was sentenced to death. Meir was her youngest son, and losing him was extremely devastating.
